A nine-year-old orphan taken in by Father Lucian three months ago after his parents died. He serves as altar boy and acolyte at St. Andral's Church, sweeping the chapel and running errands. Nervous around intimidating strangers, but innocently truthful — his answers inadvertently revealed Milivoj's involvement in the bone theft.
Overview
Yeska is a small, nervous child who lost his parents three months before the party's arrival. Father Lucian took him in and gave him purpose as the church's altar boy. He is earnest, trusting, and lacks the guile to hide what he knows — which made him a critical source of information during the bone theft investigation, though the party's aggressive questioning caused him distress.
Session Appearances
Session 13 — The Investigation
Yeska was sweeping the chapel when the party arrived. After Father Lucian sent him on an errand and the party investigated the crypt, they questioned him upon his return. He revealed key information:
- He told nobody about the bones
- However, Milivoj was in the church when Father Lucian discussed them, and Milivoj "has very good ears — he can hear things people whisper in confession"
- Milivoj had been telling Yeska tales about the devil potentially attacking the church — which was what prompted Yeska to ask Father Lucian about the church's protection in the first place, leading to the Father revealing the bones' existence
When Aleric questioned him too harshly, Yeska ran away in distress. Father Lucian rebuked Aleric sharply: "I had your word, young man. That was not well done... It is clear to me that you have never had children."
Relationships
- Father Lucian — Guardian, mentor, and father figure; took Yeska in after his parents died
- Milivoj — Fellow church worker; Yeska innocently revealed Milivoj's suspicious behavior
- Aleric Shaw — Frightened by Aleric's aggressive interrogation
Yeska is an innocent caught in the crossfire. His function is threefold: he provides critical investigation information (Milivoj's hearing, the tales about the devil); he creates a moral consequence for the party's aggressive behavior (Father Lucian's rebuke); and he humanizes the church as a place that shelters the vulnerable. He should never be put in direct danger but can serve as emotional stakes if the church's wards fail.
