Diona

A young, observant Vistani woman chosen for Raxandra's mission as a trainee. Sharp-eyed and quiet, she noticed what others missed and carried a dagger she gripped tighter whenever Stefan was near. She whispered a desperate request to the party: lure Stefan beyond the camp wards, where he would no longer be protected. When it was done and his mutilated corpse was found, she cursed in an unknown language, spat at his feet, and walked away smiling.

Overview

Diona is the youngest member of Raxandra's band, chosen specifically because the Vistani always bring someone young to train on missions. She is observant, intelligent, and mostly silent — but when she speaks, it matters. She feared Stefan deeply, especially after Petru's death removed the only person who kept Stefan in check. She took the risk of whispering the truth to the party: Stefan was unwanted by his own camp, he served something "new and worse" than Strahd, and the Vistani honor code prevented them from acting against him directly.

Session Appearances

Session 04 — First Encounter

Diona was the first to notice the party hiding in the woods near the Vistani camp. During the scarecrow attack, she was frightened by the creature's wail and fought at disadvantage — made worse when Stefan deliberately pushed her into the scarecrow's path. She fought back despite her fear, gripping her dagger tightly.

After the battle, she openly disdained Stefan: "You son of a bitch, you were less helpful in that fight than tits on a nun." She set up lean-tos for the party and briefed them about the village of Barovia.

When sleeping arrangements separated men and women, Diona looked at Stefan, then at Aleric, with an unspoken plea in her eyes. When Aleric asked if she needed anything, she drew close and whispered urgently — making warding hand motions as if performing a prayer:

"Ensure Stefan stays on his side of the camp. Without Petru here to keep him behaving himself, I do not know that I trust him." She revealed their mission to find a ring for Madam Eva, that Stefan was voted onto the mission because his own camp didn't want him, and made the critical request: "If you want to help us, find a way to get Stefan to leave the wards. We can take no action against him, and if you were to take action against him directly, you may become an enemy of our people, by honor and right. But if you convince him to step out of the wards and stay there, or keep him there by any means necessary, he will not be protected."

Her final whispered revelation: "Whatever he says he serves, it is not the master I grew up fearing. It is something new and worse. Strahd is our protector. I do not think he serves Strahd."

The next morning, when Stefan's impaled corpse was found on the tree of bones, Diona rushed to see it, cursed in a language the party did not understand, spat at his feet, and walked back to the party — smiling.
